Ministering the Message of Christ

Finance

Why do we have a Collection (Offering) at each Sunday service?

The money given on Sundays goes into the General Fund for:

-   the day-to-day costs of running and maintaining our church
-   resources for worship
-   Circuit Assessment

The weekly offering is collected from the congregation in loose cash or through the Envelope Scheme. The envelope scheme is used

-   to allow people to give a regular amount each week, and
-   to allow those who pay income tax to  Gift Aid their offering.

Our church receives several thousand pounds per year from the Inland Revenue by members of the envelope scheme agreeing to Gift Aid

What is Circuit Assessment?

This is paid to the Circuit throughout the year. The amount paid by each church is based on average membership over five years.

The Circuit is responsible for:

-    employing and paying the salaries and all expenses   of  the ministers, deacons    and lay-workers.
-    the maintenance of Manses including insurance, water rates etc.
-    general administration of the Circuit
-    District Assessment

What other fundraising is carried out and why?

1. It is part of our mission at Mossley to give to charitable causes. This may be done by collections or fundraising events for a variety of charitable causes such as:
ARC, Christian Aid, NCH, MRDF, Save the Children, Send a Cow, Unicef (Jar of Grace), Methodist Mission in Britain and World Church, and more besides.

2. Fundraising efforts for specific purposes, generally larger projects such as the Disabled Facilities, new items or building improvements

Property Matters

A Property Committee meets regularly to discuss maintenance and any renovation project. Recommendations and details of work and costings are presented to the Church Council.

A surveyor inspects our premises every 5 years and makes recommendations about work that might be needed. The inspection is a requirement of the Methodist Church in Britain, the legal owners of the property.

 Caretaking

The caretaker keeps the building clean and tidy and ready for those using it. The kitchen and toilets are kept fresh and rubbish is dealt with.

The main hall is set out for Sunday worship and the other rooms for Junior Church and then prepared for the various activities of the week. A busy week can involve a lot of furniture movement.

The caretaker manages the heating so that the building is warm, comfortable and ready for all our users.

 Bookings

A number of activities take place regularly and are already booked on the church calendar. Anyone from the church and local community who wishes to book part or all of the building for any event should contact Paul Kershaw (01457 832279) who will check if it is available. Casual bookings, such as children's parties, are welcome.
